About Project RED

Project RED (RPGXplorer Expansion Data) (I wanted to use a chromatic dragon and that's the only one that worked and made sense) exists to help coordinate data entry efforts for various sourcebooks into RPGXplorer. With multiple people working on producing datasets, usable datasets will be produced faster, and users will spend far less time entering data that someone else has already created. The completed datasets will still be distributed through the main D&D Junkie site. A number of us have been entering large chunks of data since the launch of RPGXplorer. We all want more, so it made perfect sense to combine our efforts to grow our large collections. The Project RED section helps coordinate users and provide updates on where things are at with a given dataset. With any luck, we'll all benefit from our combined efforts.

How Can I Contribute to Project RED

If you would like to help produce data for Project RED, please send me an email (link is on the left) with your RPGXplorer forum name. User registrations are manually handled by me to keep unwanted users out, and I have other things I would rather do than write a registration system from scratch at the moment.

What is the Status of Dataset [X]?

You can check where thing are at by going to the Status Page. The page is updated as contributors beging working on or finish working on a piece of a book. Each book is divided into sections that reflect the folder list found in RPGXplorer. So each book is broken into sections such as feats, spells, items, magic weapon abilities, base classes, prestige classes, and the like.

Why Haven't You Done [X], or Why Isn't [X] on Your List?

If something isn't on the list, it is simply because we haven't gotten around to working on it yet. Contributors choose what section(s) they would like to work on based on what books they have access to and what pieces of data they prefer to enter. I, for example, prefer to enter feats and spells, so that is what I usually complete first. Our goal is to have everything that RPGXplorer can handle entered into datasets at some point. So it's probably coming. It's just that each of these pieces takes a great deal of time to complete and we do have lives outside of doing data entry.

When are Datasets Updated?

Once I have received a completed piece of a dataset, I usually take some time to clean it up and remove any unnecessary extra data that RPGXplorer has exported with that piece. This process does take some time though depending on the size of each section. As it has been in the past, there will be no regular schedule for dataset updates. Once I have had the time to clean the up and re-package them with the existing dataset, I'll post them. As usual, the D&D Junkie home page and news feed will be updated to notify you that a dataset has been added or updated.

I See That [Person X] Has Completed Datasets Before. Why Aren't They Working on Something Now?

Data entry is a long, tiring, and quite frankly, boring process. We need to take a break from the tedium from time-to-time. We also have lives outside of D&D if such a thing can be believed, and there are things with a higher priroity that we must deal with. Such is life.

Please, do not email myself or anyone else working on these datasets asking why a particular dataset is not available or when it will be available. These emails will be ignored. They're done when they're done.
